On this date in 1959 Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper all died in a plane crash in Iowa during a snowstorm on their way to Fargo, ND.

Don McLean later wrote - The Day the Music Died - a song about that event and the state of Rock n' Roll in the years that followed.
