What's going through their heads?:

Here we have a picture of Dancer & Rosco a long time ago. This was not Jake Day but it was one of the infamous trips that a good number of Jake members went on back (way back actually) in the day.

Not much you can say except look at that hat and them's giant glasses...

Jake is good:

Never knew this guy's name was Jake but the article below confirms it (my coffee mug below).

I also could not resist the delicious irony of a store that sells "Life is good" stuff now going out of business...

Less than 4 months till Jake 18 boys...

Jake Winter News:

Today starts the many adventures of Heff & Cool Chief in FLA. They were jones'n for some warm weather and golf so there you have it.

Only a little over 4 short months before Jake. Chag and Dancer are starting to put together an albeit rudimentary outline for Jake 18. Nothing set yet but we've got the wheels moving.

I also got some news from the wire that Rosco has a bitch in his life.

No further update on the Doctor since the e-mail a couple of weeks ago.

Hub is enjoying life living with 4 women (this is only speculation as I have not spoken directly with him).

TP is nowhere to be found as usual.

Squirrel and his new dog are enjoying their new life together without incident.

Stubby is also basking in the afterglow of his new child and all indications are it's a breeze compared to #1 & #2 (no offense to them).

There is no information on Dee at the writing of this post.

Where In The Hell Is JAKE??

Okay Gents,
I am putting out an APB for the man himself. Enough time has gone by... He's missed enough of the festivities (2 years running).

It is imperative that Jake make a showing at Jake 18. If for no other reason to prove that he is not lost at sea somewhere between here and M.V.

Hello,

Sorry for not being in touch but things have been interesting to say the least for me since New Years Eve.. It started with facial numbness and head numbness (no really), and the symptoms have progressed.. In and out of testing and hospitals weekly since. I have been through about 10 different tests to rule out stoke, mini strokes, blood circulation issues and brain tumors. One test for Lyme has come back negative (2 too go) and a no go on diabetes( I do need to get retested).

Right now, I have numbness mostly on my left side (hand, foot, face, neck and head) the fun part is every day is a new adventure. The hand and foot are back to normal but my stomach is the new thing today.

I am off to a neurologist and neurosurgeon in the next few weeks and looking forward to getting to the bottom of things. Outside of the numbness, its just fatigue and short term memory loss depending on the day.

The next big thing to rule out are Lyme, MS, ALS and a few other cell, food allergy related diseases.

I just wanted to reach out to everyone and kinda catch up. Would like a boy's night out soon if feasible and hope everyone and family is well.

So far everything that I could have is treatable or manageable except for ALS.
One day at a time and deal with what ever is happening for the day. Its has helped put things back in perspective and I need make a better effort to stay in the loop. Our house is 95% done which is freeing up a lot more time for me.

If no one has taken the reigns of Jake Day this year I would like to throw my name in the ring. Hope all is well and I am wondering why we choose to live in the Artic

We all hope everything works itself out and you get yourself back to healthy as soon as possible. Golf season is fast approaching after all.

A "Good Jake":

Gentlemen,
We've all heard about the tragic death of a local firefighter recently.

This is an article that the Chag-stress showed me the other day and said you should put that on the blog.

The last paragraph of the article talks about what firefighters call each other when they are the best of the best (a.k.a. quality cats).

If you're not up to reading the entire article here is the last paragraph:

"We have a term in the Fire Department, and it's not used for everyone," Mitchell said. "It's given by the guys who were in the trenches with you. It says, yeah, he knows what he's doing, he'll take care of me, he'll come for me if I'm trapped. The term is simply, 'He's a good Jake.' And I'm telling you: He was a good Jake."

This reminds me of those great last lines of the movie Good Fellas:

"You know, we always called each other good fellas. Like you said to, uh, somebody,: You're gonna like this guy. He's all right. He's a good fella. He's one of us"

A good Jake indeed.

Also, check out this website to purchase 'Good Jake' apparel including hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets etc. I'll have to check with my co-coordinator but we may have a requirement at this year's Jake to dawn at least one of the items these guys sell (women's underwear does not count Heff!).

LOW: Golf venue hangs in the balance at 5:40pm the day before (Squirrel Run).
HIGH: Ashcan’s performance and graciousness.
LOW: No beers in a cooler at the softball field.
HIGH: Chag – HOF #1 unnecessary and unexpected.
HIGH: Kings – great place, great atmosphere & a big ass bowling pin.
LOW: Cool Chief Rocker’s unwillingness to put down the only OGD shot all day.
HIGH: Stubby & Hub drop the “we’re expecting” bomb.
LOW: TP whining about the foul ball “homerun”.
LOW: Chapeau not even given a thought – not even a tip of the hat.
2009 Jake 18 (Dancer & Chag):
LOW: Mother Nature is a douche bag (there I said it, now what bitch).
HIGH: Hub’s prowess on the basketball court from beyond the arc.
LOW: Barking Crab not getting us a table we could all sit at in a timely fashion (i.e. inside 1-1/2 hours).
HIGH: Lt. Stalkfleet, fooling virtually no one, save for Doc, by attending all the way from NC.
LOW: Total Package missing breakfast is simply off the charts wrong. An announcement is pending on his official Jake Status.
HIGH: Turtle at the golf course just minding his own business gets swept up in the mayhem that is Jake.
LOW: Rosco’s car doesn’t start causing him to trek back to the friendly confines of the hotel.
HIGH: Drinks at basketball much needed and a good call (the ‘sleeves’ served their purpose)
HIGH: DeeKal sucking down more crawfish than that broad but narrowly misses the crown by only a couple of critters.
LOW: Wiffleball in the rain is not as much fun as you would think.
HIGH: Chag & DeeKal taking the trophy in the blind draw.
LOW: No Chapeau again, maybe it wasn't as good as we thought it was.
HIGH: Ashcan yelling “go back to work” to the DPW driver on Atlantic Ave.
OBSERVATION: If Baggo/Cornhole was invented in the late 80’s we would have had an entirely different ‘in town’ experience.
