She's a-done!

After hockey today I had some time to kill so I ended up taking the trophy to get it engraved.

Stalkfleet - 2 time champion
Chag - 2 time champion
Dee - 2 time champion
Rosco - 1 time champion
Dancer - 1 time champion
Doc - 1 time champion
TP - 1 time champion
Keith K. - 1 time champion
Ashcan - 1 time champion

The rest of the pack... zero.
(By the way that's Little Nutbrown Hare in the back on the left...)

Trophy & Box:

Last year I found and modified the box you see here in order to transport and protect the trophy. As we all know this bad Larry was won by myself and Deekal. We had individual events last year and at the end there was a blind draw for partners. Since we won it there has been no celebration or merriment of any kind. It just sits in this box my bedroom. It needs to be engraved sometime soon but it's just not on the top of my 'gotta do list' at this point.

Rosco & Doc are running Jake XIX this year. I wonder what they have in store for us in the way of competition.

It weighs 4.85 lbs... except when you're lifting it:

Oh yes...

To follow please find some additional information you might find helpful to make your Jake Day that much more pleasant.

If you think you would like to take a shower after the activities we will have 2 hotel rooms to do so. You will need to bring a towel and any other toiletries that you might find helpful to get off whatever crizzap you get on you.

Finances:
Everyone owes Heff $10 (hotel/showers)
Everyone owes Dancer $10 (lunch etc.)
Everyone owes Me $5 (beers/soft drinks/ice/misc.)

Best to get all the who owes who done early if possible - maybe at breakfast would be good.

The parking garage closest to the Aquarium will be the best lot to be in for the day. It's the most centrally located to where we will be.

The Jake Trophy will be presented at (or after) dinner to the ultimate winning (2 person) team who has accumulated the most "Jake Points" throughout the day.
-
Dinner will be at The Crab and we unfortunately do not have 'trade'. We will be acknowledging a moment of silence for "Jimmy PC" who graced us with his presence and made a damned fool of himself on that very spot 8 years ago.

Trophy Finally Engraved 2008

Well it took a while but I finally got the trophy back from Doc and had it engraved. The only problem was the friggin' broad at "Things Remembered" did not use the correct size letters.

This means that Doc's name is slightly smaller than the others. Very unfortunate... I was fit to be tied but what can I do about it? Nothing. They don't take responsibility for anything. I'm telling you I was hopping mad but all she said was "I tried to match it as best I could" so I said I've been bringing this here since 2005 and every time they used the same size you biatch (only I didn't use the word biatch).

Oh well - congratulations Doc and nice job. I'll have to be sure they use the right size next year.

Happy St. Patrick's Day:

A bunch of reasons for this particular picture on this particular day:

#1 - It's the Jake site so we have the Jake trophy (while I owned it with my fellow champs).
#2 - It's St. Paddy's Day so I have a green shirt on.
#3 - It's my birthday so It's me in the picture.

Yeah...

What do you think of that??

Hey, almost exactly 90 days till Jake... Sweet fancy Moses...

2008 Golf Competition Results:

Below are the results from the Jake 17 golf competition.
Dancer was the winner going away...

Hell of a job also by Ashcan, Doc, TP & Rosco for exceeding expectations.

Squirrel proposed a new quota system that I think might work better next year:

8 pts. = Eagle

4 pts. = Birdie

2 pts. = Par

1 pt. = Bogey

0 pts. = Double Bogey

-1 pt. = Triple or above

I've also updated the PAST CHAMPIONS link as well as the WHO HAS THE TROPHY link accordingly.

Bring the Noise:

From the sounds of things we are in for a great Jake this year. One thing I’m particularly excited about is I'm told only one person will be crowned Jake 17 Champion. One name will adorn the trophy this year. That person will have to navigate a multitude of events and after all points are counted, that person will have accumulated the most for the day. We are in un-chartered waters my friends.

2005
2006
2007
Who will be the next Jake Day Champion?

Get yourselves together gentlemen, gather up some gumption and as Stubby so eloquently put it… bring your game.

Oh and for those who need the extra motivation you might read this prior to Friday morning.

Golf Format - Jake 17:

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ Submitted by Heff }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Gentlemen,
This year we will be playing a modified “quota system” in this years golf competition. It will not be a scramble as in years past. You will be playing your own ball the entire round.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the point system that will be used.

Depending on your score you will get points.

zero points – TRIPLE BOGEY OR ABOVE
0.5 pt. – DOUBLE BOGEY
1 pt. – BOGEY
2 pts. – PAR
4 pts. – BIRDIE
8 pts. – EAGLE

YOUR NUMBER:
Each golfer will be assigned a number based on their ability. This is the amount of points you are trying to make for the round. If you play well and exceed your point total you will be in positive numbers relative to YOUR NUMBER after the round. Conversely, if you don’t play to your potential you may end up with a negative number for the day.

The numbers everyone has to make are as follows:
Squirrel = 32
Heff = 26
Chag = 24
Stubby = 24
Ashcan = 24
Doc = 20
TP = 20
Rosco = 16
LT = 16
Chief = 12
Dancer = 6
Hub = 6

Limited information…
There will be other physical activities besides golf so bring;
Golf attire.
Something slightly more casual, a.k.a athletic attire to slip into for the other activities.
Something acceptable to wear to dinner – ‘smart casual’ if you have it.

Thank you,
Co-Commish - Heff

New Teams & Format Coming Soon:

Stay tuned for the teams and golf format for this years competition.
Final details are being worked out.

Dancer is polishing up the trophy as I type this.

3 Winners - Who will be 4th?:

Here’s a snap shot of the coveted trophy. It currently resides with Dancer and will be going home with Jake 17's winning team.

Even with Jake Day nearly 3 months away, plans for this year’s festivities are sketchy at best. No doubt it will all be ironed out in due course. I’ve heard there will be teams of 3 for all events and the team that performs at the highest level through all events will be the eventual winners.

As Heff & Stubby hash out the events and teams, rest assured the information will be past along to the masses (that means me and the 2 others who visit this site) by way of this forum.

Another Satisfied Champion:

Here’s the Dancer diggin’ it with the Jake Trophy.

Dancer was presented with the trophy on 11/16/07 and so far I have not seen any crazy/disparaging photographs of him with it but there’s always time.

This is the shot I took when I gave it to him that fateful night.

Trophy Engraved with 2007 Champions:

Behold your winners of Jake 16's golf scramble:

For those who care there was a 3 hole playoff because the Jake Day competition resulted in a 3 way tie (unbelievable).

As I say - we played 3 holes to decide the winner but the 1st hole told the story. Click on the picture below to see how it happend.

Heff & Cool Chief, the clear favorite, were in "position A" after their drive but struggled with their 2nd shot (after which it was "all down hill" as they say).

Rosco & Doc grinded and had a chance to tie but alas it was not to be.

The key to the entire match was the 2nd shot on the 1st hole. Stalkfleet (who was wearing flip flops and some kind of Hawaiian shirt) left his 2nd shot out to the right so I figure it's do or die time. With the other teams so far ahead of our drive I'm thinking birdie is our only chance. My 3 wood landed just right of the green. It was literally a 100 to 1 shot and it ended up being the difference maker.
Congratulations to Chag, Dancer, Lt. Stalkfleet (a 2nd time winner), and of course who could forget Ashcan.

2007 Jake Scramble Results:

After the absoulte drama of our 3-way tie on Jake Day it has now been decided who the trophy goes to.

On 7/25/07 we had a 2 man scramble, 3 hole playoff to decide the winner. Here are your results and scores.

The Past Champions link has been updated as well as the Tale of the Trophy link. I'd first like to thank my Lord and Savoir...

After it's engraved, the trophy will be doing some traveling this year - N.Cal, Indiana & home of course. Champions "pictures with the trophy" are mandatory.

TEAMS & 4-SOMES FOR THE 2007 JAKE SCRAMBLE:

Baring any major discrepancies from founding members of Jake, here are the teams and 4-somes for the 3rd Annual Jake Scramble.
BY TEAMS:
BY 4-SOMES:

Team #4 will not be elegible to play for the trophy.Scramble format for them is optional.

Again - on the 9 easiest holes - both teamates will be required to play at least one (1) shot and this shot cannot be an offical putt.

Labels:

NEW GOLF FORMAT:

After a brief executive committee meeting on Sunday after the 3 club tournament it has been decided that the format will be similar to years past but changed slightly.

1 full team will consist of 4 players playing in 2 separate 4-somes. Another way to say it is - you and your partner will be paired with 2 others from a different team.

The format is still a 2 man scramble however the best score of the two, 2 man teams will be recorded as the offical score.

TEAMS & 4-SOMES ARE STILL BEING TINKERED WITH AND WILL BE REVEALED WHEN WE KNOW WHO IS PLAYING AND WHO IS NOT PLAYING.

LAST RULE CHANGE:
On the 9 easiest holes on the course (handicap holes 10 through 18) each 2 man team must use at least one (1) shot from both teamates. STIPULATION: THIS SHOT CANNOT BE A PUTT!! (FYI: A PUTT IS ANY SHOT THAT IS OFFICALLY ON THE GREEN - NOT A SHOT THAT IS OFF THE GREEN BUT A PUTTER IS USED). The fringe is not offically on the green.

TROPHY:
The trophy will be engraved this year with the names of the 4 man team who wins this years competition.

Single Handicappers Scramble Poll:

What should we do about single handicappers with regard to the Jake Scramble? (you can vote for multiple choices if you want)

o They should play alone
o Their partner should be required to make more shots (i.e. must use 5 drives from partner)
o They should play from the "tips" and everyone else can play from whites
o They give an agreed upon number of shots to the field
o Leave it the way it is (try to pair people up to make it as fair aspossible)
o Make it an alternate shot tournament instead of a scramble
o They should be required to do (alcoholic) shots on at least 4 tee boxes
o They should be excluded from the competition
o If they win the trophy again - they should give every Jaker $10 each
o Even if I did know the best thing to do, I wouldn't tell you scrubs

Former Champion Shuffles Off:

Here we have the good Lieutenant after being presented with the Jake Trophy. He was 1/3rd of the 3-man team that won the Scramble at Jake 14 (2005).

Stalkfleet has picked up (or is damn close to picking up) and moving Southward to enjoy the nice weather, year round golf and inexpensive livin' relative to here in the Northeast.

Farewell Stalkfleet - We all assume you'll be making the trip back for JAKE this June. Keep us updated on how things are and stay in touch by way of messages here at jakersdelight.

Happy New Year to all!

Keith K. with the Jake trophy:

As promised - Here's the captain of this year's winning Jake scramble team just moments after the elabrate presentation ceremony.

We have just learned that he may also be moving south soon so it would seem the trophy will be doing some traveling in the future.

After Keith fondles it for a while we will try to get it to Dee as he was Keith's teammate and certainly contributed to the win... That is to say I'm sure there were many, many things that Dee did to help bring the team to victory that day... Nothing's jumping out at me at this moment but never-the-less...
